The Believer’s Unshakable Assurance in Christ

The Believer’s Unshakable Assurance in Christ
Romans 8:1-39

By W.H. Wood
Prepared on April 10, 1944 in the afternoon.
Personal note added “May God help me to preach it.  I feel it in my heart.”

There will be no condemnationRomans 8:1-13
Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1

The believer has been made free from the law of sin and death.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. Romans 8:2

The believer has been given the indwelling spirit of God, who brings life and peace.
However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Romans 8:9-11

There will be no alienation.  Romans 8:14-17

True believers are led by the spirit of God.
For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Romans 8:14

True believers are adopted into God’s family.
For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!" Romans 8:15

God’s spirit bears witness with the believer’s spirit.
The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, Romans 8:16

True believer’s become heirs and joint-heirs with Christ.
and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. Romans 8:17

There will be no disintegration (to break up in component parts).  Romans 8:18-25

Believer’s bodies will fall into dust, but later will be redeemed.

All of God’s creation groans for the new and coming day of full redemption – body and spirit.

God’s full glory is revealed in our complete redemption.

There will be no isolation (being left alone).  Romans 8:26-27

The true believer will never be left alone.

God’s Holy Spirit will be in him on earth.

Christ will be interceding for him in heaven.

There will be no miscalculation.  Romans 8:28-30

All the vicissitudes of life must work together for good to the real believer.
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28

All the links in God’s chain or plan of salvation will hold together – not one of them will be broken – foreknowledge, predestination, calling, justification, and glorification.

There will be no accusation.  Romans 8:31-34

God is for us.
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? Romans 8:31-32

God is the one who justifies.
Who will bring a charge against God's elect ? God is the one who justifies; who is the one who condemns ? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. Romans 8:33-34

There will be no separation.  Romans 8:35-39

All the forces in the universe are powerless.

The love of Christ triumphs over all.
